Puerto Galera easily takes its spot as one of our favorite destinations, because it’s the third place that we’ve visited more than once, next to Baguio and Tagaytay.
Before February ended, Gerald and I spontaneously went to a quick weekend getaway, as a way to release stress. Or maybe we’re just too excited for summer?
Aside from the fact that we miss the beach, we have three more reasons why we chose Puerto Galera as our destination for this quick getaway.
Puerto Galera is very near the metro
With an approximate travel time of three (3) hours from Makati, Puerto Galera is one of the best places for a quick getaway. No need to stress myself looking for airline promo fares just to experience beach! Imagine, for a short amount of time, you’re already off to a beach getaway! :)
And since it’s near the metro, there’s no need to take more days just to enjoy. This is our second trip to Puerto Galera and just like the first one, it’s a 2D/1N weekend trip only. It was short, yes, but just enough to take a break from city stress.
A quick getaway to Puerto Galera is within our low budget
For every trip, we always consider three things:
Since it is near the city, we don’t need to book for a flight that cost thousands. Roundtrip fare for bus going to Batangas and boat going to the island would only cost around Php 1300.
Air-conditioned rooms good for 4 pax cost around Php 1500/night and there are even lower than that.
- Food and Activities
There are local guides that offer tour packages and you can also ask your hotel. I have only tried parasailing, for only Php 1000/pax. For the food, there are a lot of restaurants around, and most, if not all, offer unlimited rice. Yay! We were able to enjoy meals for less than Php 500 for 2 pax. Hotels also offer free breakfast so that’s one less meal to spend on.
Our budget never exceeded Php 3,000/pax when we went to Puerto Galera. That’s not bad, right? But of course, it will always differ per person. Yours could be cheaper or more expensive.
Locals in Puerto Galera are friendly and accommodating
I remember the first time we went here, everything went very smooth despite it being on a “peak season” that is Labor Day, because the locals helped and guided us. Gerald was surprised how everyone’s accommodating. On our second visit, we concluded that the locals are really just friendly.
Employees in our hotel are very friendly, they always smile at us and gladly assist us with our needs. Tour guides would offer you packages, but they won’t bug you until you avail one. Politely say no to them, and they’ll immediately walk away. Kids who sell things can be quite annoying, but come on, they’re kids and they’re supposed to be annoying, right? Haha.
There’s also one kid who talked to me, telling me he’s going to get me a crab or something. He’s digging and trying to find for it, but no luck. Hehe.
Also, the dogs we found are playful too! I wasn’t able to take a photo of the other dog who’s playing with some foreigners. This dog that we also found seems to like chilling by the beach too. :)
For me, Puerto Galera is so far the best place for a quick weekend getaway. It only takes a few hours to hit the beach, budget-friendly and locals are accommodating.
It was gloomy the day we went to Puerto Galera but that didn’t stop us! And it’s not just us, because there are still people who stayed in the beach despite the rain.
On the next day, the weather was better, but we only have a few hours left until we go back to the city. It was sad, but I’m sure we can always go back to Puerto Galera. :)
You may also watch this clip I made! Yay, I finally got the time to edit videos haha it was short, but I hope you’ll enjoy it. :)
